Buying a used groveler
Who it suits
Anyone who surfs small, weak waves regularly. Usually a couple of litres above your normal shortboard figure.
What to check on a used one
- Grovelers get surfed on shallow sandbars and hit the bottom. Look at the fin boxes carefully.
- The extra width means more deck to dent. Thumb-press the whole front foot area.
- Check the tail is the shape you think it is. Swallow, squash and diamond ride differently.
The full ten-minute inspection applies to every shape.
